The Networkers - Networking Nets Business

HISTORY OF THE NETWORKER

The Networkers had its origin as being a Chapter of BNI (Business Network International). The chapter was formed in November 1996 with about twelve (12) ambitious like-minded individuals who wanted to grow their business. Under the guidelines of BNI the chapter grew to approximately thirty (30) members, but then dribbled down to approximately fifteen (15) members. It was at this point in time, that a central core of members recognized a need to keep the essence of the Networking concept alive. A major change had to take place.

So in the month of September 2002 The Networkers was formed. The location of where we met was changed (upgraded). Our name and design was created, our Logo and our motto "Networking-nets-Business" was adopted. Our decision to change the rules was made .Enforcement of attendance became paramount, with no exceptions. Allowing two five (5) minute member presentations a week rather than one ten (10) minute presentation, allows for a more frequent opportunity to promote a member's products or services. One meeting a month there's a ten (10) minute education presentation by a member to reinforce our objectives of being a business lead generating association, gain skills and insight into customer service and increasing their business referrals.

Although we have seen many people come and go over the years, we still have some members who were part of the original body. We continue to be a group of "one-of" businesses so only one business represents any given product or service. Of course we encourage "co-opetition" between members whose services complement each other.

To show our commitment to our community we introduced a 50/50 draw, where the proceeds (which is generally over $1,000.00 a year) are donated to our adopted charity of choice.

Yearly social events and impromptu get togethers re-inforce our camaraderie and help to build relationships, not just in business, but also personally. Members are encouraged to meet with other members one-on-one to learn even more about the other's business and how each member could benefit.

These initiatives have contributed to the growth of The Networkers to our current membership of thirty-five (35) committed people.
